What is Engineering?

Ways to go in Engineering...
1) Competitive coding. Test and improve your skills by spending time (daily) on competitive coding websites.
2) Explore and keep learning. Why only college? EdX, Coursera, Udacity, are always there for you...
3) Create. Learn as you implement your idea in the form of a website, app, etc.
4) Excel @ college. Of course we will always have toppers who focus just at the things at hand until they take in every detail.

Try them out. From personal experience i think it's best to stick to one and scatter some bits of your time for the rest, but a bit of this and a bit of that didn't turn out to be a good choice for me. I started with one, but soon found out it wasn't my thing. Moved to 2, but that faded too. Finally i'm on three and have a few good ideas building up and ready to be implemented. Yes, you learn a lot by building. I don't plan to go to 4 yet, i'm happy toggling between 2 and 3 for time-being :) and the best part is you never ever run out of either... The best idea is yet to be sparked and most interesting concept is yet to be understood...

Ekaterina Walter explains the old proverb.

It seems that failure tends to be more public than success. Or at least that’s what we perceive it to be. We fret it, we try to avoid it, and we question ourselves every time we have unconventional ideas. But the simple truth is – no great success was ever achieved without failure. It may be one epic failure. Or a series of failures – such as Edison's 10,000 attempts to create a light bulb or Dyson’s 5,126 attempts to invent a bagless vacuum cleaner. But, whether we like it or not, failure is a necessary stepping stone to achieving our dreams.

Why does voting makes sense

We choose our leaders. Majority wins. But is majority always right?
There's more than enough good in this world. Think of it this way, what percent of population do you think believes in terrorism. See? People believe in good, they are right in their own ways. We all want peace and prosperity and we seek people who can give that.
So how does this work? Politicians make promises and we assume they would follow them. We give them a chance, if they deliver their promises we elect them again. Simple right?
Do realise we have a responsibility here. Don't play a game of chance. You sure control your vote, you do it on your own lines. Why do you think your friends cast their votes to different people even though you both want the same thing? Perspective? Yes and no.
We need to have a clear understanding of what we are dealing with. The people are the same. You know the ups of one and your friend knows downs of the same and hence the votes. rarely do we put forth all the facts and make a wise decision. When we do it's more of a debate without a conclusion either due to insufficient data or we have 'apple only' people in the debate. Not much we could do about the later(or not?) but wouldn't it be nice to have a clear idea of what we are dealing with? So to all the politicians rather than making open promises, wouldn't it be nice to draft a plan and make it public before the elections? and when you do so please be a bit pretty ;) we all know very few people go through a cryptic 100 page document.

Procrastination is the thief of time! Really?

Let's consider a typical Indian Engineering student example. We have our submissions after every 6 months, and it should not be a panicy situation because all you need to do is submit all that you have done in the past 4 or 5 months. No big deal? But the truth is the majority of the population never completes an assignment on time and months of work load is scrambled in just a few days ( and ohh the feeling of pride if you survive the heat).

Okay, we all know if we did our work on time, we won't have to go through such pressure in the end, but another way to look at the situation is, in this process we manage time better than we ever would.

Apparently time is not uniform. Some times it appears to flow swiftly and some other time it is just stuck(remember those last boring lectures when your watch mysteriously seems to work slow!! Damn!).

Your work spans according to the amount of time available. So you keep the potential of completing an assignment in one hour if the submission is tomorrow, but if it's in the next week, the assignment is coupled with a movie and chit-chat and takes away your 4hrs.

Remember though you are quite unlikely to get the best results if you shrink weeks of work to days.
So, is procrastination good or bad? Well it's for you to decide. It's your life ;)

Abstraction

What is the basic goal of every living being on this planet?
Biologically speaking, it's survival. But...
as a human race, we go a step further and ask ourselves...Why? What are we all doing here? Why do we wake up in the morning, freshen up and work(or cuddle(:))! Maybe that's the way we see for survival(prosperous survival), but there's more to the story.
Though the human race is one, and yes history says we do what we do to survive, when you ask someone, 'what do you want to do?', 'survive' might be the least likely answer.
So we 'the homo sapiens', don't just survive, but we tend to explore, discover, invent, care and love. We don't just live life, we try to understand life... Here is where the race splits (with a wide overlapping region).
Lets see a day from each of the 3 types ---
Type 1 - The inventor -
Case 1 - Woke up in the morning at 8. What if i can control how much i sleep? If i could make some device that would wake me up... and we have alarms(with snooze buttons :P)
Case 2 - The Lovely inventor / Altruist - Why do we hear the news? To stay updated? Increase our GK? What good is that? What's the point in making myself better? I need to do some thing for my friends out there.
Such software developers are making the productivity apps you find on playstore. They work hard to make a change and though often underappreciated, they don't mind. It's important to be good and if enough for you to know that.

Type 2 - The discoverer -
Curiosity. Every human is born with it, only the levels vary. Very few of us are able to stop ourselves from doing something if someone simply says 'Don't do it'. You need to give reason - why not?  We spend time on You Tube, searching 'how stuff works'. Sometimes our brains don't process all the input but we try and then we try again. These are the people who might not be the brightest sparks, but the knowledge they share makes the inventors life easy.
Type 3 -The Lovers -
The most common of all.

So which ever category, you may fall in, just take a minute from your life and think of how much you owe people. If it wasn't for them, we might be sill be out there in the jungles, clueless from where we came and where we should go and the only thing that emitted light would have been the sun and the moon... So what do they expect from us? Nothing, but won't if be nice if you look up in the sky and say a humble sweet 'thank you'?
P.S. - The draft isn't edited properly for publishing, but i hope it conveys the message.

Long Gap...

Some very interesting - not so common - things happened in the past few months. For the first time since 10th, i had a feeling of homesickness(i even called mom to stay here for a few days...moms rock!!!). Frustrated by the problems after shifting to a new flat among other things and the most of all all this was happening when i really had the chance to do what i always wanted...
SE IT was meant to be the start of my new awesome life(and now it is). Yes, there were some ups and downs but now it all seems to settle in place. I finally get what i wanted and i have to strive to keep it that way.
I would like to call this a perfect life but unfortunately some issues never resolve. What once seemed to be the best thing that happened to me, now brings me down. Some times things don't work out the way you want them, but it's okay. It's life move on.
Flashback - Had an amazing time with Atharva and Dinesh at Sinhagad, lost my best friend even when i never had her and made some new friends at SE9. I wish this didn't sound so cold but i don't see other way of putting this. Everyone has emotional problems and most of them are due to not speaking up, hiding. It's all a part of life, but on the positive side i never lost focus on what i really wanted to be. May sound a bit selfish, but the motivation is - 'it's for the grater good '.
P.S. - I know there are not many readers here, but if you are one of the few, don't read this post twice, instead power off your device and go hug the person whom you love the most(and by person i mean a person, not a mirror).

Character

#Repost

Can u judge who is the better person out of these 3 ?

Mr A - He had friendship with bad politicians, consults astrologers, two wives, chain smoker, drinks eight to 10 times a day.

Mr B - He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps till noon, used opium in college & drinks whiskey every evening.

Mr C - He is a decorated war hero,a vegetarian, doesn't smoke , doesn't drink  and never cheated on his wife.

You would want Mr C right.

But..
Mr. A was Franklin Roosevelt!

Mr. B was Winston Churchill!!

Mr C Was ADOLF HITLER!!!

Strange but true..
Its risky to judge anyone by his habits !
Character is a complex phenomenon.

So every person in ur life is important ,don't judge them ,accept them.
Three beautiful thoughts

1. None can destroy iron, but its own rust can!
Likewise, none can destroy a person, but his own mindset can.

2. Ups and downs in life are very important to keep us going, because a straight line even in an E.C.G. means we are not alive.

3. The same Boiling Water that hardens the egg, Will Soften the Potato!
It depends upon Individual's reaction To stressful circumstances!

Beautiful saying ---
Mobile has taught us three things ....
Whatever makes you happy  -- save it..
Whatever makes others happy -- forward it...
Whatever will make no one happy -- Delete it..😎😎🌅

Edit : Smart phones are ment to stay in touch with your loved one's, not to replace them with their virtual self.
P.S. : I don't know the truth of the above statements but they surely convey the truth about judging other people.

How to Be Single (2016)

Section 1 -
This might be the second time my favourites are coming together! But this is big. The last one was 2 States with Aliya Bhatt and Chetan Bhagat, but now guess Who! it's Taylor!!!!!
How to be Single - It starts with the song Welcome to NewYork(and ends with a beautiful melody for me to write this) - Do you still need more reasons to watch it. Okay so guess who's staring? It's Anastasia(from 50 Shades of Gray) and she really played her part very very good. The story ending is unlike most of the love stories; and this is not a spoiler post - so see the movie for that. The message?
Live your life to the fullest when your single and some day you'll find the love of your life. And oh, if you've spent lots of time reading novels, love stories or science behind love, ditch the books for some time and focus on finding a parter. (Singles, )You won't know what you had until it's gone and you won't understand the beauty of the feeling unless you experience it.
That's what i made out of it. What do you think?

Section 2 -
The movie starts off with what we think about how relationships work in the Western World(In America/ Not in India/ i don't know). We never know if that's the right way if we never try. It's always good to experiment even if the results might be scary. You'll learn from your mistakes and isn't that life's' all about. Explore! Enjoy! Love! Stay Happy(and sad sometimes)! Be crazy and totally absurd! Have Parties! Get Drunk at least once! Go and say to your crush you love her(and take the kiss or the slap whichever it might be)! Forget everything and everyone just for a moment and fell the real you! Smile! Try Everything!

Transcendence (2014)

What techno can do. How good a human can be. This movie gives you a lot of insight into the future. In-spite of the obvious logic flaws*, the movie does have a strong impact on the way one thinks. Oh and as always i see no reason for online ratings for the movie(20% by rotten tomatoes come-on it deserves more than that, some things stand above logic, you know what i'm talking about if you see the movie).
No judging this one - I'd just say it's a must watch movie for every geek out there.

Hacker Earth

Hacker Earth
'I have not yet completed the factorial question on Code Chief' - Really? Sounds funny. Who the hell stays for 2 months(i guess) on the same question.
i got back on the competitive coding websites 2 days ago and finally i get the feel of why our seniors say - 'it's addictive'.
This time i chose hacker earth. Well it went some thing like this - I went to the college library with my guides for the college primarily exams(and yes i did study for the exams). And then there was one of my classmate sitting there in a corner with his laptop on going through some problem on Hacker Earth. I went to him and he immediately took his gaze off the screen and said ' ha baas dekte raheta kabhi kabhi ' (i see them some times). I asked him if he'd solved the factorial question, he had not. Now there we have our lost hopes back. I returned home and opened the site. Ashish asked his progress on the site and so we searched for him on Hacker Earth.
TLDR - So here's the strategy for continued progress without loosing hope -
Search for your peers on Hacker Earth and attempt their successful submissions.
You get some you don't get others but you gain confidence. This is much better than sorting the problems according to successful submissions!
But remember -
You'll survive the heat if you love it.
Happy Coding :)

The day Bio and Tech mate...

Avtar! The highest earing movie world wide. I see nothing impractical there.
A movie about humanity, definitely. But also it opens our mind to whole now possibilities. The connection of technology and biology. A language that could bring soul 0's and 1's. An ocean of opportunities!
Also give them the tech but be in control!
P.S. - Sorry not a hardcore writer so i'm fine giving up some editing for the movie :-P

Abhivyakti'16

2 hours of full entertainment. Dance, drama, music - Abhivyakti this year was as good as if not better than Addiction! All the FE's simply rocked the stage(literally rocked - the band was about to fall at a stage:P). Together with art exhibition, Abhivyakti gives us the glimpse of our peers' talents and skills. Their devotion toward their performances and towards Art circle is magnificent. Hats off guys.

INC

A couple of things about PICT INC (Impetus and concepts)
1) Most of the projects are from PICT BE students (the same they submit as their final year project). They also have a some other college submissions though.
2) Try to stay away from the college if you don't want to attend the inauguration ceremony - that means a speech from the pricipal, Comp HOD and the chief guest(s). If you stay you'll see teachers and guard forcing students to sit for it and they have the classic give your Icard weapon if you refuse(so unfair).
3) There's a possibility that you might think that the projects are only on the basketball ground(this year I think they had a selected projects that could turn up into startups there). Well go inside the college almost every room has at least 4 to 5 projects!
4) The fist year students might get many bouncers in case of the computer projects but it's a great motivation, you'll know what are the possibilities how judges evaluate the projects and the best of all that PICT students are cool!
5) Sure the project makers will tell you in detail about the project if you ask them, but tail the judges. Often they ask questions that make sense to you and well bottom line, the judges will make an impression on you.
6) It's easy to ignore this event. If you don't go to college for 3 days you would never know it happed! Do yourself a favour. Just browse the projects list and them scan though a couple of rooms you'll be amazed :)

A few years ago

a few years ago there was a boy who wanted to change the world for the better. He wanted to explore it to the fullest to know everything and to use his knowledge then for the greater good. help people. Make the world a better place as they say it. Normal right? But then he joined the like minded people. The race began. He found reasons to keep going and to persuade himself that he has not deviated but guided towards his dream, that this race was just a stepping stone towards it. Years passes and he was just a man in the crowd. Well he didn't care for the praise any ways in the past right? So that shouldn't matter! when he thought about it he always said yeah it doesn't matter. But the environment was making him see things differently. At times it was about the winning strategy. cracking the job interviews, socialism and being cool and happy. The true happiness was fading away somewhere. The thirst to know things buried the kind child deep down... The child who knew love who saw people smile and would call it a day. Who'd like to hug a stranger who needs a hug. Who'd define happiness by the number of people he made smile. Who'd talk random talks to  the stars and his sis and get all senti. That innocent little boy with the best heart! love that boy, bring him back, make him teach the present adult what's life and let there be light:)

Really! Is that called beginner level?

The 4th simplest problem on CodeChef looks like ....(sorry 404 metaphor). I skipped the third one cause the fourth looked simpler(X-/).
I don't know if this is normal for a starter but this competitive coding thing looks sexy...
"Stick to it", said our seniors at the workshop. Lets see where it takes me :)

Brave

A & B were best friends for 4 years if their engineering from IIT. A did his B.Tech CSE at IIT Bombay and B did Mechanical Engineering in the same college. Both of them were hired in a multinational company with fat salaries. A was the top developer at apple and B was in Hundai.

Years passed… A soon traveled abroad and the friends were no longer in touch. A quit his job at apple and joined another reputed company and became the company's CEO in a few years. 10 years after his graduation he got a chance to come to India. He decided to go on a long drive on the outskirts of Bombay and so he was all set. As luck would have it his cars tyre was punctured just a short distance from a garage. He got some help to get his car to the garage to fix it.

And there was B in greased clothes ready to service A’s car. Stunned, A asked B how come he landed here! He could have been a billionaire by now and most likely a CEO of some multinational company. He knew B well enough, becoming a CEO would not be at all difficult for B.
B smiled and answered, “I left my job just a month after joining bro. I always wanted to use my own hands to repair and design stuff. I wanted to fix peoples cars and bikes all of my own. Here I get to do that and I love it.”

A was in tears, being a CEO has nothing to do with success he knew that he always did. He also knew that his heart was in becoming a full time open source developer. That’s what got him into CSE. He knew he should have followed his heart and he would be happier even  if he was just among the thousands contributing. He knew it all, but he never dared to go against the flow.

Only that it makes us the ruler, but there are still constraints never the less!
This is supposed to be an debate.

Motivation

"Procrastination is the reason for the death of many of the brilliant ideas even before they are born"
Did I repeat the same mistake again?
i've not posted any thing on the WordPress networking blog after i found out that they don't allow Google Adsense integration for a free account! i'm stuck between the cool looking interface of WordPress(not to forget it's brilliant app) and the functionality that blogger provides.
Was money the motivation for the netski blog? Well it was not supposed to be. The blog needs to develop. i got to get this thing done.
Well and as far as networking is concerned - Port forwarding over my router is boiling my heads:-/
I've searched for my forums online for the problem but 'canyouseeme.org' always fails to see me! After finding a third IP address(really I mean weren't two enough#-!) I thought I'd better get back to basics to figure the problem out but now I'm done with books. I require hands-on learning.
Let Google lead the way...and courses follow.
PS - At times I wonder if I'd make a make a fair teacher the only thing to avoid is being PTK !o!

How-To Geek

This might be the first time Im really not annoyed after signing up for a website newsletter.
This site has some pretty cool stuff to offer. Their newsletter (which is daily I guess) has a nice looking format and has topics in which any geek would have a fair amount of interest. A real 'Must try'!
The website might be a clutter but the newsletter sorts things out.

Listen

PISB held a seminar yesterday on - Recent trends in IT industry. The speaker there according to him -
Worked with Maharashtra Police as a ethical hacker for 3 years
Hacked into Amir Khans website
Is the student ambassador for Mozilla in pune.
The point that he made which still rings into my years is that if he gets a chance he'd prefer fb over Google!
The reason was pretty good - fb has a greater contribution to humanity to the needy than Google. True that. It Google is involved somewhere its not showing off it's contribution as much as fb.
Another thing - The guy said get 60% in PU and stay calm. I firmly believe in this. PU is just a hood to hide our real purpose of doing engineering - learning. We have Internet and more specifically Google. Just learn to keep the balance between keeping your family satisfied and learning/ exploring new stuff if you can't ignore the former.

As i go along with learning stuff, I plan to get a networking blog in action which can have the articles and definitions on common and advanced networking terms. Another blog is just on it's way...

Story Time

This is a write-up my friend Sharveya sent me a couple of days age.
I used to be something else than today.Having a competing attitude I would always comparemyself to a friend of mine. He was a frequent winner but I managed to win insome (and when I say winner I mean he got an A in tests and I stood there downin the list what a B+ - well it’s actually worse when you get a 49/50 and your friend gets a 50).We have had our discussions on phones about topics (in the syllabus :-P) discussing home-assignments and study strategies but that always ended with a same note "Tuza kiti Zaala".Most certainly in 10th he scored 0.2% percentage more than me(that’s how people see it). Then we chose a different path leading to same goal(engineering or more precisely engineering form IIT).My path was very difficult, and his path lacked the competition. After 2 revolutions of earth…He was better than me and I felt bitter.I failed to accomplish my dream. The he gotadmission to central university, I realized I lacked in hard work and perseveranceeven though I had strong determination. He was not determined but his hard work tipped him.Actually if I think about it in a different way we both failed…We have had a friend in common who didn't speak muchabout his studies; nothing at all when I visited him,  we both played computer game in those twoyears. And now he is in the most reputed centraluniversity. That day I realized actions speak louder thanwords. His actions did the thing. According to psychology,The one who tells about his goals and dreamsactually is unable to achieve it.Because those words or dreams are just on thetongue they don't provide the inner ignition that enables a person to work hardenough. This is my small experience in life.Do tell me how is it?I think I will never forget those two years oflife that gave me enormous amount of inspiration, opinions, teachings, views.I may not be successful but I learnt many thingsform people around and I think that will help me in future. Thanks.

My first blog on the internet - The speaking tree

                                                           Kindness for all
I live near a government office where there are three dogs. I have stayed here for about two years  now and observed that the dogs never barked at people that come in the office during office hours. But if they have a visitor at night, they chase out of the gates. Its fun watching them play in the office garden. Today, in the afternoon, I saw two people riding a bike, and two of the same dogs were chasing it with full speed. I thought he must have harmed them in some way. The driver slowed down the bike and parked it. The dogs following him stopped right in front of him wagging their tails. He took of a bag from his bikes carrier and a news paper and put some food on the newspaper for the dogs. I was touched. Surely the man must be regularly with this as the dogs seem to really know him well. I learnt an important lesson that you need not know a person or animal very well to be kind to him, help him or to make his day merry. You just need to be pure at heart.

Judging something is a funny thing - no matter what you think all that you know could only be the tip of the iceberg. The most difficult part of life is that there's no book for right or wrong, good or bad no book no rules and no supreme guide. You are alone and the only thing that keeps your soul alive is...

Magarpatta - A Beautiful City

I went to Magarpatta last week with my friend . The reason of the visit was to get information about online jobs from one of the many companies there.
Well now about the city - I know i haven't seen the world much yet but this by far was the most beautiful city i'd ever seen. The infrastructure is stunning, beautifully architectured buildings and a perfectly circular park in the center of the city(which we were not allowed in because we didn't have a city i-card and we were too lazy to smuggle ourselves in).
It is beautiful and what people wold call a dream city anyone would love to live in...
Do visit* the serenity of Pune. Though it can not be called a tourist place exactly but it gives you an idea of what you could call a 'good work office' or whatever.
* Its a great city but its a city not a zoo or some park so don't expect to see any of that when you go there also the garden at the center of the city is by rules is not for visitors.

Black Hole

Almost everyone of  us has a dark secret that no one knows. It just eats up deep within and we keep looking for a person trustworthy enough to understand it. To share the load. You might think that you know your best buddy better than any one but most of the times there's a other side of people which you don't know. Even the most digital and mechanical person does have a heart and if you think she/he doesn't you looked the wrong side of them. There's more love in this world than you could probably imagine. Don't form your opinions on the world just looking at a infinitesimal lot who don't like you. Open up. Live your life the way you want it. Enjoy it. There's no one to tell you what to do. You are the one who decides where you'll go what you'll see and what you'll be.
Rise and smile.

I wanna learn stuff what's so great about it - what's in it to appreciate? Why do they say good guy when u say you are studying? I study mostly if the stuff interest damn it don't you get that! How do you fail to see the beauty of the film behind the scenes. The 0's and 1's going through almost all wires in the form of small electrical current at lightning fast  speed. OK may be these wonderful things might not be obvious to be interested or maybe you don't give a shit about how it all comes together and just want to enjoy the party. Well I'm totally cool with such people - I admire abstraction but I don't do it, got it? - I do believe in enjoying the moment and forget all the backstage work. I do believe but its not who I am. And if you don't agree with me that's fine give your suggestions but don't keep spanking me with the stuff you think is right.
